Syndicat des Fabricants d'Horlogerie des Cantons de Berne et de Soleure
(Redirected from Syndicat des Fabricants d'Horlogerie)
The Syndicat des Fabricants d'Horlogerie des Cantons de Berne et de Soleure was one of the earliest watchmaking organizations attempting to organize and control watch production. It existed in the 1880s and 1890s.
Creation
The idea of a syndicate of watch manufacturers originated in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1888, with James Perrenoud writing an open letter proposing the idea in La Fédération Horlogère in March. The Société Intercantonale des Industries du Jura studied the question following the example of similar organizations among the makers of ebauches and case fitters.
