Fontainemelon is a village in the Val-de-Ruz between Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds in Canton Neuchâtel. Les Hauts-Geneveys is just to the west, Cernier and Chézard to the east, and Fontaines to the south. The Swiss Alps rise directly to the north of Fontainemelon, with the mountain pass known as Vue des Alpes connecting it to La Chaux-de-Fonds; today the two are connected by a tunnel.
Fontainemelon is best known in watchmaking for the eponymous Fabrique d'Horlogerie de Fontainemelon (FHF) ebauche factory, one of the most historically important watch manufacturing sites.
