- Antoine Norbert count de Patek meets the talented French watchmaker Jean-Adrien Philippe at the Paris World Exposition 1844 and elects him as his new partner. From their collaboration emerges the prestigious watch manufacture Patek Philippe.
- Jean-Adrien Philippe receives a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition of 1844 for the crown winding which he had developed in 1842.
- Charles Antoine LeCoultre invents the Millionometer, with which the first measurement of mechanical components with a precision of one thousandth of a millimeter becomes possible.
