- The Geneva watch maker Louis Cottier designes for Patek Philippe the first wristwatches "heure universelle". From the dial of these world timers the time can be read in all 24 time zones of the earth at the same time.
- Edmond Jaeger's Jaeger and LeCoultre merge to become Jaeger-LeCoultre. That same year, Vacheron Constantin swaps shares with the new company and joins SAPIC.
