- 1879 — Louis Brandt, founder of the company that became Omega, dies in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
- 1886 — German watchmaker Alfred Helwig is born. He developed the flying tourbillon, among many other accomplishments.
- 2007 — 98 watches are stolen from the Girard-Perregaux museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds. They were discovered under a tree just over the border in France two days later.
