- The Fabrique d'Horlogerie de Fontainemelon (FHF) is founded in Fontainemelon by Isaac and David Benguerel together with Julien and François Humbert-Droz under the name "Benguerel & Humbert. It is the first raw movement manufacturer of the world.
- During the French Revolution it is attempted to introduce the decimal time, counting time in decimal units. This fails, however, because of the lack of acceptance by the population.
- Due to the turmoil of revolution Abraham-Louis Breguet flees from France back to Neuchâtel.
