- 1845 — Famed watch company A. Lange & Söhne is established in Glashütte by Ferdinand Adolphe Lange. His great grandson Walter Lange would re-establish the company there on the same date in 1990, and the original factory would re-open on this date in 2001.
- 1965 — American astronauts Frank Borman and James A. Lovell, Jr. orbit the earth 206 times in 14 days aboard Gemini VII. The astronauts wear Omega Speedmaster watches on the mission.
