Vallon de Saint-Imier
The Vallon de Saint-Imier is a mountain valley in the Bernese Jura of Canton Berne in Switzerland. It is located southwest of the Vallée de Tavannes and southeast of La Chaux-de-Fonds. The Val-de-Ruz and Bienne/Biel are to the south.
The Suze river runs through the valley to the Aare near Bienne/Biel. This provided power for mills in the 19th century. Notable watchmaking towns in the Vallon de Saint-Imier include (west to east):
La Chaux-de-Fonds is just on the other side of the Vue des Alpes pass to the west, and was the primary point of trade and communication for the valley in historic times. The road through the valley forks at the eastern end, with the northern fork headed to Tavannes and the valley of the same name and the southern road to La Heutte and Bienne/Biel.
