- Auguste Agassiz, together with the watch dealers Henri Raiguel and Florian Morel, opens a watch trade with manufacturing in the Swiss Saint-Imier. In the following period it becomes the well-known watch manufacturer Longines.
- Joseph Thaddäus Winnerl, at whom Ferdinand Adolph Lange will gain important experiences from 1835 until 1840, goes into business for himself in Paris and manufactures marine chronometers, precision pocket watches and precision pendulum clocks.
