• The Manufacture Maurice Ditisheim, founded by Maurice Ditisheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds, offers for the first time watches of the brand Vulcain.

• Numa-Emile Descombes and Ulysse Georges Perret together found a watch and etablissage plant in Le Locle. Later it becomes the well-kown manufacture Universal Genève.

• Jean-Adrien Philippe dies on 5 Januar in Plainpalais near Geneva.
