• The brand name Alpina is officially registered.

• On 1 February, Patek Philippe is converted into a stock company and renamed Ancienne Manufacture d'Horlogerie Patek Philippe & Cie. S.A..

• The Glashütte watch manufacture Union presents as anniversary watch what is at the time probably the most complicated pocket watch in the world, La Fabuleuse. It has seven additional dials, on which circle thirteen hands.

• The later well-known movement manufacturer Valjoux is founded by the brothers John and Charles Reymond in Les Bioux (Switzerland) under the name „Reymond Frères SA“.
