- 1827 — Master Glashütte watchmaker Julius Assmann is born.
- 1916 — Charles-Auguste Heuer receives a patent for the Mikrograph, the world's first 1/100th second stopwatch.
- 1967 — Reinhard Straumann dies in Waldenburg. He was technical director for Revue Thommen and director of the FH and, on his own time, invented the Nivarox balance spring material still in use today.
- 1994 — Ebel is sold by the founding family to Investcorp.
