- The brothers Charles Robert and Hyppolite Robert found the company H. & C. Robert in Villeret in the Bernese Jura, from which later the well-kown manufacture Minerva emerges.
- P.-F. Ingold of Bienne, creator of various machine tools for the manufacture of watches, invents the cutters for grinding teeth which still bear his name.
