• The chronograph model Daytona Cosmograph, which has become famous by the actor Paul Newman in a film presence, is brought to market by Rolex.

• Ebauches SA's first electric watch movement, Cal. L4750, debuts at the Basel Fair, with models from Angelus, ARSA, Blancpain, Camy, Dulux, Enicar, Invicta, Leonidas, Mira, Orator, Reusser, Sandoz, and Silvana.

• Rayville (Blancpain) becomes part of SSIH under Omega.

• The story of Maurice Lacroix begins with the creation of an assemblage plant in Saignelégier by the parent company Desco von Schulthess AG. Initially watches are manufactured under different customer brands.

• Hannes Keller, a young professor from Zurich, on 28 June 1961 dives in Bressago to a world-record depth of 222 meters with a Vulcain Cricket Nautical.
