Chapter ring

The chapter ring is the circular display of markers around a hand or pointer.

Most watches feature a dial with a circular ring of markers or numerals which allow the wearer to interpret the time, date, or other functions. This is properly called the chapter ring ("tour d'heures" in French), though this term is infrequently used in modern times. Some watches feature a so-called sector or "railroad" dial ("chemin de fer" in French), while others use simple printed lines, applied bars, or numerals.

Because the chapter ring can sometimes be printed on the rehaut or inner bezel, these terms are often used interchangeably.
