Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon
The Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon is a wristwatch by Girard-Perregaux.
This watch upsets a whole series of prefabricated ideas. Who would have thought that the precision of the finest horological complication could connect with gambling? Girard-Perregaux brings these two worlds together in an exclusive Haute Horlogerie piece of surprising complexity. For the first time a watch comprises a tourbillon and a "one-armed bandit" with carillion, and all this in the perfect proportions of the housing of the Vintage 1945.
On the dial, a window at the 12 shows three symbols next to each other, at the 6 a dial opening allows views to the Gold Bridge and the tourbillon cage. The magic of the game starts when you pull the lever on the right side of the case. The three cylinders rotate and then depending on the laws of chance stop at one of five possible symbols, while a tiny hammer strikes a gong. The result is a sound that is reminiscent of the slot machines in casinos. Among the 125 possible combinations, there is a jackpot: three bells in a row.
However, the technique, which gives life to this unique miracle, is no coincidence at all. Many were the challenges: the combination of watchmaking and the technique of a slot machine, the miniaturization, and the combination of all these features. For Girard-Perregaux has not just chosen a playful addition to an existing movement. This is a completely new creation. The draft of the completely integrated new calibre GPFAY08 Jackpot Tourbillon was preceded by a month-long development. The entire movement of the slot machine is controlled by a toothed rack which sets the cylinder in motion, stops it, and also enables the carillon.
