Patek Philippe Calatrava 5153
The Calatrava, Ref. 5153 is a modern incarnation of the classic Patek Philippe Calatrava.
This is the current Officer's Watch from the Calatrava line.
Info
Although the Patek Philippe Calatrava line is best-known for the understated Ref. 5196 and hobnail-bezel Ref. 5120, Patek Philippe has been producing an officer's watch as part of the line since 1989. That limited-edition piece paved the way for Ref. 5022 and Ref. 5053, both full-production pieces, and finally this Ref. 5153.
Introduced in 2009, Ref. 5153 departs as significantly in dial design as it adheres to history in the case: The attention-grabbing guilloche inner dial disc is something never before seen in an officer's watch from Patek Philippe or any other maker. At the same time, the case, with its screwed lugs, large crown, and hinged case back is absolutely traditional. The tiny crown guards, however, are quite new to the model. Inside, Ref. 5153 is equipped with a modern automatic movement, Cal. 324 S C. This movement beats at a modern 28,800 A/h with a high-tech silicon Spiromax hairspring along with Patek's Gyromax balance. The full rotor is shown off through a sapphire case back.
