1953 — Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay summit Mt. Everest for the first time, with Hillary wearing a Smiths De Luxe watch. Their Rolex watches were left at the base camp.

1996 — Michel Parmigiani and Pierre Landolt create the Parmigiani Fleurier brand with a handshake in Lausanne.

2013 — Urwerk introduces the first "mechanical smart watch" movement, the Urwerk EMC. It would win both the Innovation Watch Prize and the Mechanical Exception Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in 2014.
