- Hans and Erwin Kurtz develop the pioneering concept DS (Double Security) at Certina, in which the movement is included in a kind of highly robust safe. As a result of this wristwatches with self-winding movements can for the first time resist a free fall from 1.8 to 2.2 meters on hard ground.
