- The watchmaker Franck Muller, the later co-founder of the famous luxury watch brand Franck Muller Genève, named after him, is born on 11 July 1958 as the son of an Italian and a Swiss.
- Gerd-Rüdiger Lang, the later founder of the renowned watch manufacturer Chronoswiss, begins his watchmaking training in his home town Brunswick (Braunschweig, Germany) at the watch shop Jauns.
- In the same year begins the collaboration of Jack W. Heuer, a grandson of the founder, in the company Heuer, later: TAG Heuer.
