1911 BTR Automatic Chronograph Calibre 139 is a chronograph by Ebel.
Twenty years after the introduction of the legendary line 1911 with its distinctive hexagonal case the "Architects of Time" presented in October 2006 the revised Ebel men's collection: 1911 BTR, a contemporary, purely mechanical and especially masculine watch series which draws attention to itself by a diameter extended to 44.5 mm and a larger bezel.
On the Baselworld 2007 the Calibre 139 was presented. It is the fourth in-house Ebel automatic movement. It is based on the high-precision Ebel Calibre 137 from the year 1995, but was extended to a remarkable display of the conventional totalisers to facilitate the reading of elapsed times.
By this the "Architects of Time" solved a well-known problem in an innovative way: Conventional totalisers are very small, which is why they are not read quickly and accurately. Therefore, the chronograph indications of this model appear in view windows rather than round totalisers. The dial has been interpreted as a separate architectural structure and could accommodate perspective and relief effects, while the hours hand stands in the foreground as a striking element.
The chronograph minutes counter was shifted from his traditional position to 3 o'clock to appear in the form of a 120° counter. Thus, the readability of the display is greatly improved. Once an arm of the three-armed minutes counter hand has counted 30 minutes, the second arm takes over timing exactly where the first has begun its course in the zero start position. The hours display of the chronograph differs also from the conventional counter format: a disk partitioned from 1 to 12 rotates under the dial and shows the hours running in a window at 6 o'clock. The chronograph stop hand maintains its position in the center.
Through the sapphire crystal caseback with the signature "Architects of Time" the compass-like weight segment can be admired.
