- 1747 — Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet is born in Neuchatel. He is credited for many innovations, including improving automatic winding, free-sprung escapement, shock protection, and the so-called Breguet hairspring. His son founded the eponymous Breguet company.
