The Val-de-Ruz is a wide valley in Canton Neuchâtel Switzerland. It lies just to the south of La Chaux-de-Fonds and the Vallon de Saint-Imier and to the north of Boudry and Neuchâtel. To the west is Le Locle and the Val-de-Travers.
Because it was well-suited to agriculture, the Val-de-Ruz was came late to watchmaking. However, it became extremely important due to its location on the road between Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds once the Fabrique d'Horlogerie de Fontainemelon was established in the 19th century.
