Mare Nostrum is a diver chronograph by Panerai
With this model the watch manufacturer Officine Panerai, so far only responsible for specialized military watches to the Italian navy divers, in 1993 entered the public wristwatch market for the first time. The watches were first produced as a prototype and then partially sold. They were equipped with the manual winding movement ETA 2801-2, with additional chronograph module Dubois Dépraz 3127.
Panerai had already used the name "Mare Nostrum" in 1943 for a diver chronograph: for a special model given to board officers that then, however, did not reach beyond the state of a prototype.
All in all, the Mare Nostrum series included a total of 990 pieces. Some pieces had been reworked from 1995 for the series Slytech. From this emerged the references PAM 6 (blue dial), 7 (white dial) and 8 (black dial).
Following the phenomenal success of Panerai models from the mid-1990s, these earlier models increasingly move back into the focus of collectors and watch enthusiasts.
