Michel Thomi

Michel Thomi is a watchmaker and businessman from Saint-Imier who was technical director at Longines and later Girard-Perregaux.

Originally from Geneveys-sur-Coffrane, Thomi received a technicien-horloger diploma in 1959 and began work in the watch industry.

Thomi joined the board of Longines on March 7, 1975 and became deputy director of the company on May 17, 1979. He was called director of the technical bureau of the company in a 1976 article. He was removed on January 13, 1986 as most of the management of Longines was changed.

Thomi was also a director of Ducor SA of Berne from 1984 through 1986.

Michel Thomi moved to Girard-Perregaux after Longines and was appointed director on January 16, 1987. He became a director of their subsidiary GP Manufacture on June 15, 1989. When Claude Jeangros died, Thomi took his place as president of Fondation Girard-Perregaux, secretary of GP Manufacture, and director of Girard-Perregaux SA, with Jean-Paul Corbaz serving as secretary.

In 1994, Michel Thomi, as director, introduced the new GP3000 and GP3100 automatic movements produced by GP Manufacture.

When Jeanrichard SA was formed on September 23, 1996, Luigi Macaluso named Michel Thomi and Jean-Paul Corbaz as directors.

Michel Thomi was director of the Swiss Society of Chronometry until 1996. Edmond Capt of Frédéric Piguet took over after this.
