Valdar was a machine tool company in l'Orient in the Vallée de Joux founded in 1918 by Charles Meylan. The Valdar name appears in 1922, with the company incorporating as SA Valdar in 1928. The firm took over production of the Triovis fine adjustment system in 1981. In 1991 Valdar was purchased by Investcorp and it was paired with Montres Breguet and Nouvelle Lemania in 1995 under Groupe Breguet. This was sold to Swatch Group in 1999.
