Chronoswiss

Foundation
Chronoswiss was founded in 1981 by watchmaker Gerd-Rüdiger Lang in Munich, though the current company dates the founding to 1983. Chronoswiss specialized in mechanical wristwatches with Swiss quality movements by ETA as well as on the basis of old calibre stocks by Enicar and Marvin, a move that ran counter to the trends at the time. This proved prescient as companies like Ebel, IWC, and Blancpain ushered in a new wave of mechanical watches through the next decade.
Over time, Chronoswiss produced more components in-house and updated their classic ebauches further. Starting in 1988 the company began to produce watch cases in house as well. A particular success was the „Régulateur“, a wristwatch with regulator dial based on the model of precision pendulum clocks. A pocket watch "Regulateur" with a Minerva calibre was also made. Chronoswiss now exports to over 40 countries worldwide. Each year about 7,000 watches are sold in about 500 stores worldwide - in Paris, London, New York and Tokyo.
Move to Switzerland
At the beginning of 2012 Chronoswiss was sold to a Swiss entrepreneur family, with Oliver Ebstein taking over as CEO. Chronoswiss moved to its new headquarters in Lucerne, Switzerland in 2014.
As of 2024 Chronoswiss remains in the hands of Ebstein as an independent watchmaking company.
Chronoswiss Handelsgesellschaft Vienna
In 1975, Siber Hegner Holding AG of Zürich founded a company called Chronoswiss Handelsgesellschaft in Austria to sell the products of Synchron SA (Cyma, Ernest Borel, and Doxa) there. The company represented IWC by 1981. The company was unrelated to the later German company.
