• Blancpain presents newly re-designed editions of historical models from the trilogy of time: the "Air Command" as pilot's watch, the "Fifty Fathoms" as dive watch and also the "GMT 24".

• Fortis presents the world's first self-winding chronograph with integrated mechanical alarm or alarm watch function. The new construction has been developed by the Zurich artist watchmaker Paul Gerber in 1997.

• The SMH is renamed to Swatch Group.

• Vendôme ceases to exist as a separate entity on March 25, having been entirely acquired by Richemont
