1876 — The Intercantonal Association of Jura Industries is formed, representing watchmaking in French-speaking Switzerland; it would grow to represent the entire industry after 1948.
1953 — German watch designer Jörg Hysek is born in East Berlin. He designed many watches in recent decades, notably for Vacheron Constantin, Breguet, and Tiffany.
