- The German master watchmaker Gerd-Rüdiger Lang founds, on the peak of the quartz crisis, a studio for mechanical watches in Munich, which later becomes the company Chronoswiss.
- On 30 November 1982, the new Breitling Montres SA, lead by Ernest Schneider, is officially registered. He had purchased the brand from the family just before Willy Breitling's death in 1979.
- IWC introduces the Porsche Design diver's watch, which can withstand dives to 2,000 meters.
