Aquaracer is a dive watch series by TAG Heuer

The history of diving and sailing watches from TAG Heuer

Since 1895 TAG Heuer (at that time: Heuer) maintains the tradition of diving sailing and watches. Because at that time they launched the world's first pocket watch with waterproof case. In 1939 followed the first waterproof wrist chronograph. In 1942 with the Yachting Timer followed a regatta stopwatch. Such watches have a backwards counter (countdown function) which counts down the last 15 or 10 minutes before the start (with 15 min mostly illustrated in three different colors: green, blue and red).

With the Heuer Solunar in 1949 appeared the world's first wristwatch with tide indication. It was followed in the next year by the Heuer Mareograph-Seafarer, the world's first chronograph with tide and regatta indication counter. The Heuer Skipper, today also a highly prized rarity, sought after by watch collectors, also offered a regatta counter in 1968 and was launched as a chronograph version in 1972.

The professional Series 2000, designed by Jack W. Heuer and produced from 1982, with its screw-in crown guaranteed a water resistance up to 300 meters and had the turning bezel obligatory for diving watches.

Aquagraph and Aquaracer

With the 2002 presented Aquagraph, which had been tested and used at the US Navy unit Navy Seals, one ventured into the new dimension of depths of 50 atm - which was all the more remarkable because it was a chronograph, where in addition to glass, caseback and crown also the two chrono pushers had to be secured against the load that exists in these depths. The pressure is here already as high as an amazing thousand kilos per cubic meter.

The series Aquaracer was first presented in 2003 and since then has been maintained as a professional, but at the same time visually very attractive diving watch series of the brand. It includes an entire collection of modern diving watches and dive chronographs that are not only extremely functional, but also set new standards in design and appearance.

The 2009 launched model Aquaracer 500M is, as the name suggests, waterproof to 50 atm. It was complemented in 2010 by the chronograph version Aquaracer 500M Automatic Chronograph and added by a model all in black.

With some models, the electro-mechanical chronograph movement TAG Heuer Calibre S is employed, which interconnects mechanical and quartz technology. It can measure and indicate hundredths of a second. The Calibre S consists of 230 components and 5 bidirectional micromotors. The indication is running either in the watch or in the chrono mode.

In the other models calibres on solid ETA basis are installed.
