The Grönefeld family dates their watchmaking expertise to 1912 when Gerhard-Louis Grönefeld began his career as a watchmaker. His son Sjef and grandsons Bart and Tim followed the same path, with the latter reestablishing the family workshop in Oldenzaal in 1998 and beginning production of branded watches in 2008.

The first Grönefeld watch was the GTM-06 minute repeater with the in-house Cal. G-01. This was followed by the dead beat One Hertz, said to be the first where the dead seconds are powered by a secondary gear train independent of the gear train for the hour and minute indications. It was launched in 2010 and became winner of TimeZone Watch of the Year the next year. In 2014 the company introduced the Parallax Tourbillon which would win the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève prize. The 2016 1941 Remontoire Constant Force would win another GPHG prize.
