- 1751 — French clockmaker Antide Janvier is born.
- 1909 — Universo is founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, bringing together 15 companies specializing the the manufacture of watch hands. They would grow to be the largest such company in the world.
- 1941 — Bulova runs the first-ever television commercial.
- 1951 — A. Lange & Söhne, UFAG, and UROFA are consolidated into VEB as Glashütte's watchmaking is socialized.
- 1957 — The International Geophysical Year begins. It would spur the development of famous watches from Jaeger-LeCoultre, Nivada, Omega, Rolex, and others.
- 2011 — The sale of watch batteries containing mercury is banned in several US states, leading to a global ban.
- 2007 — Carl F. Bucherer acquires movement specialist THA, becoming a manufacture.
